Kallumakkaya Nirachathu or Stuffed Mussels


  • Kallumakkaya (Mussels) - 7 pieces
  • Soaked rice - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut  -  1/4 cup
  • Sweet cumin - 1/2 tsp
  • Onion - 3.
  • Chilli powder  - 3 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut oil - 2 tbs
  • Salt - As needed
  • Water - As needed


Clean kallumakkaya pieces.

Add grated coconut, sweet cumin, onion to soaked rice and grind them well.

Fill the grinded mixture into cleaned Kallumakkaya with shell and boil it in a kitchen ware.

Make a paste of chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and water in another bowl.

When the Kallumakkaya with the mixture boils, separate the Kallumakkaya from the shell.

Heat a pan and pour in  some coconut oil.

Mix the Kallumakkaya with the paste and fry.
