Very elegant is the confluence of Arabian Sea with its backwaters forming the well known Andhakaranazhy Beach. Located in a coastal village to the west of Pathanakad, Cherthala, this is a nationally acclaimed tourist spot. The invariable action of Arabian Sea at its merging site with backwaters leads to this sandy sedimentation called ‘Azhi’ (isthmus). Striding through this softy sand and getting into this cool water is the best way to de-stress you. A tall Lighthouse guiding the seamen during night, the St Francis Xavier’s Church and a ‘Trimurti’ temple are its prime attractions. A kandakarna temple and Subramanya temple are also located nearby. There is a natural harbour called Manakkodam and an arial walkway with restaurants to lure the tourists coming from different places.

Andhakaranazhi when translated to the local language of Malayalam means Estuary of Darkness ironically there is a light house erected at Andhakaranazhi. One could never opt to miss out the sunset at Andhakaranazhi.The majestic light house stands like a signal tower guiding the seamen during night. This lighthouse is open to public during the Onam season. It is also a popular shooting location for Malayalam film songs.
The highest highlight of Andhakaranazhi is the beauty of the beach. Away from the usual throng of crowd, the beach is quite, beautiful and serene. One can sit at the shore and enjoy the waves, the sea breeze and the sunset.
