A irrigation dam located at the foothills of Neliampathy hills. Unlike the usual concrete construction, its core is made up of a mixture of jaggery, quicklime and sukri. The dam set in the backdrop of hilly mountain ranges with greenish paddy feilds on sides provides a scenic beauty to the visitors. This dam is constructed across Padipuzha and Meenchadipuzha. The dam and its surrounding ambience is an ideal spot to enjoy nature’s beauty and unwind yourself. So do not think twice to make a stopover here on  your way to Nelliampathy.

Pothundi Dam is the first stop over after crossing the Kaikatty Junction on the Nelliampathi Hill Station, the first stopover is the Pothundi Dam. This dam is the source of irrigation for paddy fields in adjacent areas. Pothundi dam was actually built across two tributary rivers of Ayalar rivers, namely Meenchadyppuzha and Padippuzha. The interesting feature of this dam is the entire structure was built using boulders and not iron or steel. The mixture of Jaggery and Limestone were used in place of cement and concrete paste. This dam was constructed in 18th century amidst of picturesque view of surrounding Western Ghats.
